AGM Update

CPSM Council

CPSM’s annual general meeting was held on Wednesday, June 26. Below is a summary of the meeting:

  • Minutes from the June 28, 2023 AGM were approved.
  • The audited financial statements for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2022 and ending April 30, 2023 were approved.
  • Registrants approved the appointment of BDO Canada LLP as auditors for CPSM in the 2023/2024 fiscal year as the Finance, Audit, and Risk Committee recommended.
  • In accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act, all Bylaw amendments approved by Council in the past fiscal year, must be confirmed or varied by the registrants present and voting at the AGM. The Affairs of the College Bylaw was amended this year to establish the process of creating the Board of Assessors. The amendment was distributed for public consultation in January 2024. Members approved the amendment at the AGM. 

2024 Election Results

This spring, an election was held for five Council positions. Three were in the Winnipeg electoral district, one in the West electoral district, and the Associate Registrant position which is a yearly election.

Councillor positions for Winnipeg and the West were elected by acclamation as follows:  

  • Dr. Chaitasi Intwala - Winnipeg
  • Dr. Rizwan Manji - Winnipeg
  • Dr. Jennifer McNaught - Winnipeg
  • Dr. Alewyn Vorster – West

CPMS expresses our deep gratitude to Dr. Roger Suss, Dr. Heather Smith, and Dr. Normal McLean, outgoing Councillors, for their many contributions to Council. Dr. Suss and Dr. Smith will continue their work on Council committees.

Associate Registrant Member on Council

Three nominations were received for the Associate Registrant position. Dr. Wendy MacMillan-Wang was elected as an Associate Registrant member of the Council.

We thank Mr. Chrisopher Barnes, outgoing Associate member, who served on Council for three years representing associate members and ensured the physician assistant perspective was considered.  

Public Representative

Additionally, CPSM appointed a new Public Representative, Neil Cohen. Mr. Cohen replaces the outgoing public representative, Dorothy Albrecht.

We thank Ms. Albrecht for her contributions to Council over several years and on the Central Standards Committee.
