Refilling Prescriptions During Wildfire Evacuations

A provincewide state of emergency called for mandatory evacuations in Flin Flon, First Nations of Pimicikimak Cree Nation, Pukatawagan (Mathias Colomb Cree Nation), Marcel Colomb First Nation, and the community of Sherridon. As wildfires continue to spread, over 17,00 people left their homes without much time to prepare.

With pharmacies in Flin Flon closed, patient prescriptions cannot be verified with the pharmacy or transferred to another location. Physicians evacuated may also be unable to care for their patients. Physicians in other areas of the province may see increased requests for prescription refills.

Our Prescribing Practices Program (PPP) is available to help ensure patients receive prescription refills they require. Physicians can contact the PPP at 204-774-4344 or by email at cpsm@cpsm.mb.ca for assistance with refills or other issues they are experiencing as a result of the evacuations.

CPSM is monitoring the situation and will update directives as necessary.

Doctors Manitoba has compiled a list of resources to check for updates.
