World Family Doctor Day

May 19 is Family Doctors Day, a day to acknowledge their significant role in patients’ lives and communities.

You may care for an individual for most of their life or care for generations of a family, and in doing so, you become more than a medical care provider; you are who they trust to see first for support and advice with their health concerns. These personal connections are what makes your role so significant and appreciated.

While we take this day to acknowledge the contributions of family physicians, we also understand the increasing workloads and pressures you face. We recognize your need for support and are committed to providing it.

The province has been clear that help is on the way. As a regulator, we are doing what we can to support the province’s recruitment initiatives to ensure that all Manitobans can access family care without putting more strain on existing family physicians.

Your health and ability to practice safely are of utmost importance. We want to emphasize the importance of self-care. By taking care of yourselves, you are not only ensuring your own well-being but also enhancing your capacity to provide quality medical care for Manitobans. We encourage you to prioritize your health and well-being as you do for patients. As a reminder, CPSM and other organizations offer several resources you can access; click here for a list of resources available to you.

We thank you for the dedication and integrity you bring to the profession.

We hope you feel appreciated and recognized by patients, colleagues, and your communities today and every day of the year.
