Registrants who meet the requirements of Full (Practising) Class Registration may practice within your scope anywhere in Manitoba.

 

FULL PRACTISING CLASS

Requirements

You must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply:

  • Hold a medical degree from a nationally approved faculty of medicine or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from a school in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College accreditation.
  • Hold one of the following:
    • Certification from the College Family Physicians of Canada
    • Certification from the Royal College in a specialty field of practice
    • Certification from the College des Médecins du Quebec
    • Affiliate status with the Royal College in a subspecialty:
      • Completed a Royal College subspecialty examination through the Royal College – Subspecialist Examination Affiliate Program (SEAP) and;
      • Completed an approved period of supervised practice. 

OR

If the following applies to you:

  • Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine before January 1, 1994 and successfully completed one of the following postgraduate training requirements:
    • Previously registered as a full registrant in good standing on the Manitoba Medical Register under subsection 17(3) of the former regulation as it read on February 16, 2012 or under section 4 of the Registration of Medical Practitioners Regulation, Manitoba Regulation 9/94 as it read on the day before it was repealed, as the case may be, and engaged in professional practice in Manitoba while registered

 

How to Apply for Registration 

Before applying, please note:

  • Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. 
  • To avoid delays in processing your application, please ensure all documentation is complete.

1. Complete an Application for Medical Registration (AMR) through PhysiciansApply.ca. The following fees will be required when you submit your AMR: Medical Council of Canada Fee and CPSM documentation fee. Please note that fees are non-refundable.

NOTE:  If your medical school/postgraduate training was taken outside Canada or the US, ensure all documents are submitted and source verified by Physiciansapply.ca and enable document sharing for CPSM. These documents include:

  • Medical Diploma
  • Internship Document
  • Postgraduate training document (successful completion and inclusive dates of program)
  • Specialty Certificate

2. CPSM receives your application directly from the MCC and will review it. You will be contacted regarding outstanding/further documentation.

3. Once the application is reviewed and approved and all documentation is complete (including, but not limited to, required fees, professional liability insurance and identification [ie Canadian Passport or Passport and one of the following:  Work Permit, Permanent Resident Status or Canadian Citizenship]), a certificate of practice (licence) and registration will be issued.  Please note that you will be required to attend a virtual group orientation.

 

 

CANADIAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT (CFTA)

The Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA), is an agreement amongst the federal, provincial and territorial governments of Canada. One of its purposes is to eliminate barriers to labour mobility within Canada.

The CFTA entitles physicians who have an independent practice licence in another Canadian province or territory to apply as a Regulated Member Full Practising class without having to undergo significant additional training, examination or assessment. You must still apply for registration in Manitoba and may not practise in Manitoba using registration or a licence issued by another jurisdiction.

Requirements

You must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply:

  • Hold a full, unrestricted licence in another Canadian jurisdiction.

Note: Physicians who hold a provisional/conditional licence in another Canadian jurisdiction may be considered if there are no conditions/restrictions on your licence or if there are conditions/restrictions that can be accommodated by an equivalent condition/restriction in Manitoba.
