Defining Retirement

For CPSM registration purposes, retirement is defined as the point in time when a registrant chooses to permanently withdraw from their active professional practice of medicine.

In this context, the registrant will be ceasing and closing their medical practice.   

Retirement differs from temporarily ceasing practice (i.e. a leave of absence) in that the expectation is that the registrant will not return to their professional practice.

While retirement may be expected to be permanent, a retired registrant may decide to come out of retirement. When that happens, you must contact CPSM to apply for a renewal of your certificate of practice. Find more details on Inactivity here.
