As a regulatory body, we aim to support values of inclusivity, equality and compassion in the medical profession. For that reason, commemorating Pride Month is important and necessary.

Pride Month is a significant time for 2SLGBTQ+ communities everywhere. It is a time to celebrate diversity, promote acceptance, and recognize the struggles that colleagues, patients, and their families face.

Recently, there has been an increasing rise in acts of hate and discrimination targeting the 2SLGBTQ+ community, locally and around the world.

As medical professionals, we must create safe, supportive, and inclusive environments for all Manitobans who seek care. In doing so, we send a message of solidarity and understanding to the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

By actively acknowledging and participating in Pride Month, we honour diverse experiences and contribute to the larger movement towards equity and inclusion in healthcare.

CPSM is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and cared for. We are dedicated to promoting high-quality, patient-centred care that embraces the unique identities of the patients we care for.

We invite you to use the following resources:

  • Transforming Health: Inclusive, Personalized Care

This episode of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario’s “In Dialogue” podcast features Dr. Jordan Goodridge, a Toronto-based family physician and medical educator who specializes in 2SLGBTQIA+ health and HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) care, where we discuss inclusive, culturally safe and patient-centred care for 2SLGBTQIA+ patients.

  • Gender-Affirming Medical Care

CPSM expects that all registrants provide respectful care to all patients regarding their sexuality and gender. Gender-affirming care aids patients in pursuing gender affirmation. As physicians, there are some simple steps you can take to help patients feel supported, starting with understanding the terminology. This post contains trans health resources and referrals.
