Governing Legislation

The College is a statutory body established by an act of the Manitoba Legislature. Its primary rights and obligations stem from its legislative authority.   In broad terms, the Act empowers the College to establish criteria for licensure and to regulate the practice of medicine in Manitoba. The Medical Act provides the framework within which the College operates.

Other legislation relating to health care, including personal health information, applies to certain of the College’s activities and affects how the College functions. Legislation that has a significant impact on specific activities of the College will be referred to in context throughout this website.
